Groundcovers are underappreciated but integral for any garden. When it comes to both maintenance and design, groundcovers are indispensable- they provide effective weed control, and they serve to link the other elements of a garden together. Join Holly Zipp, Head Gardener of the Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden, as she shares her experience using a wide range of plants for these purposes. Holly will share Betty Miller’s unique approach to groundcovers, explain how to maintain these plants in a diverse setting, and highlight groundcovers that are Great Plant Picks (GPP).
Speaker Profile: Holly Zipp
Holly Zipp is the Head Gardener at the Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden. In 2008 she moved to Seattle from her hometown of Washington, DC after completing her Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture at the University of Michigan. Between college and graduate school, she spent several years working on organic vegetable farms on the East Coast. As the mother of a toddler, Holly hopes to build a kid-friendly garden with her husband at their new home in West Seattle. She enjoys traveling to visit gardens whenever she can, both stateside and abroad.
