Topic: "Clematis - Selection and Design with the Queen of Vines"
Whether you have only one clematis or a dozen you can always introduce one more into your garden. Learn about the different types of clematis based on bloom time and vigor and how they can be used for vertical height and as companion plants. Learn that selection starts with deciding on a location - not buying and then finding a place to plant. Learn tips about initial planting, cultural requirements and about subsequent growth and training as a vine. Learn some basic guidelines for pruning and that pruning rarely kills a clematis. Speaker Profile: Marilyn Glenn
Marilyn Glenn is a WSU trained Master Gardener and is currently on the Board for the Whatcom County Master Gardener Foundation. She worked as a research chemist and an environmental compliance specialist for The Boeing Company.
Marilyn and her husband, Steve, have a four season ornamental garden on Alabama Hill in Bellingham, WA. Their garden was featured as a tour garden by the Whatcom Horticultural Society in 2017 and is an official display garden for the American Daylily Society.
Marilyn’s passion for clematis began as a collector and evolved into designing with clematis for vertical height and companion planting. Their garden features 30 roses, 40 clematis, 200 daylilies and is open by appointment for touring.
