Speaker Profile: Jairul Rahaman
Jairul Rahaman was born in Guyana, formally British Guiana, South America, where she developed her love for nature, specifically for plants and mushrooms.
After moving to the Pacific NW, she continued to pursue her botanical and mycological studies. Jairul has a special interest in the nutritional and medicinal potential of plants and mushrooms, which led her to earn a Doctorate in Nutrition.
Jairul considers herself a Citizen Scientist, and over the years has discovered a number of mushrooms that were new to science. The latest mushroom she found turned out to be a missing link in the phylogenetic tree of a genus.
She is the former president of the Snohomish County Mycological Society and regularly gives presentations to groups in the US as well as in Canada.
