Topic: "Fire Resistant Landscaping for Western Washington"
Wildland fire is natural component of the environmental in the Pacific Northwest. On the west side of the Cascades the fire-free interval is much greater than that on the eastside of the mountains. Regardless of what side of the mountains that we abide, there will be wildland fires.
Wildland fires do not have to be destructive to our homes and improvements. We can live in harmony with the cycles of fire, whether long or short return intervals. Selecting, planting, and maintaining the vegetation in the home ignition zone is one of the common denominators
to determine the survivability of our homes in the Pacific Northwest.
