Topic: "Introduction to Pollinator Diversity and Threats, including the Giant Asian Hornet"
This talk is designed to introduce the participants to the diversity of insect pollinators and to their interesting life histories.
Speaker Profile: Bob Gillespie

Bob's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. His majors were History, Physical Education, with an emphasis exercise physiology. He has a Master’s of Entomology from the University of Idaho, and a PhD from Montana State University in Biology with an emphasis in insect and plant ecology.
Bob has been an entomologist for 40 plus years. During that time he was a State Entomologist for the Montana Department of Agriculture. He spent a year and a half as a post-doc Research Entomologist at a USDA/ARS lab in Peoria IL. He was also an Extension Agronomist/Entomologist for Washington State University for 5 years.
For 21 years, he was a faculty member at Wenatchee Valley College where he taught courses in agriculture, natural resources, outdoor recreation, and biology. When not teaching, Bob and his students spent summers studying native bees associated with native plants of the shrub steppe. Bob is currently retired and wants to spend his retirement helping people develop habitat that will conserve native bee populations, help them identify common bees of Skagit Valley, and provide habitat for other wildlife.
